Industrial and Organisational Psychology

Provision exists for a Master's degree in Labour Relations and Human Resources to be awarded in either Arts or Commerce depending on the candidate's previous degrees.

The coursework programme has been structured to accommodate part-time and full-time students ad students who are not residents in the Nelson Mandela Bay geographic area. The programme is presented in Port Elizabeth on the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University South Campus in 8 blocks of a week-long duration. Attendance at block-lectures is compulsory.

Admissions requirements for coursework programme

Labour Relations is a multidisciplinary field of study. The proper understanding and practices therefor requires the underpinning of a number of disciplines: Economics, Law, Sociology, Psychology and Politics. Therefore, students shall be admitted only if they have an Honours Degree with a pass at or over 60% in one of the following programmes: Labour Relations; Industrial Psychology and Organisational Psychology; Human Resource Management; Labour Economics; Business Management or Industrial Sociology.

All candidates shall nevertheless be subjected to selection.

All applicants are to send all the required documents to the NMMU Admissions Department ( and are to CC Mrs Kendra Roodt ( in the email. Please do not send your application to only one of the recipients as this will hinder your feedback regarding your status.


Please Note:

  • Applicants from who have never studied at NMMU, are required to fill in both and provide all the documents listed on the attached list.
  • Applicants who studied at NMMU before but took a break (or never registered for 1 or more years), fill in both forms. And they should submit qualifications that they have obtained elsewhere if any.
  • Applicants who have been registered up to last year (2016) only fill in the one form, the post grad studies form.
  • Note: that no application fee is payable for 2017.
  • Note: Applications must be submitted online on and all documents must be uploaded on as attachments  (pdf files).
